Keio University Darko Radovic Laboratory (co+labo) Competition | Spring 2013
Site | Tokyo, Japan
Abstract
The competition called for a data collection pavilion to be set up for four days on the Kuhonbutsu River Green Street in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo. The brief required a budget of less than ¥100,000 and the inclusion of a 2.7m x 5.4m x 2.8m tent. However, a tent may feel private and uninviting to passersby. Therefore, in this proposal tent-shaped arches on either side of the tent extend its boundary to include its periphery, helping to decrease its “private-ness.” Tent-like fabric between the arches decreases visibility in this area, thus comparatively increasing the “publicness” of the tent. After winning the competition, the pavilion was erected and used as a data collection hub by Darko Radovic Laboratory (co+labo) from July 20 to 23, 2013.
