Abstract
The covering up, filling in, and confining of the Shibuya River has turned it into a city river invisible to the people. In this project, the dead space above the Shibuya River has been turned into a museum that connects the past, present and future through the experience of space and water. At the bottom of the river, the present Shibuya River and the five spaces that trace back time (in the opposite direction of the river) together represent the past relationship between people and the river. The character of the water, the distance to water, and the change in water level depict the river’s dignity and pain, its beauty, the horror of human destructive power, and the difficulty of maintaining a good relationship between people and the river. At ground level, these forms encourage the formation of new human activity, and the future relationship between people and the Shibuya River will be established.
